Zendaya cannot wait to share some insights and behind-the-scenes secrets about the making of Malcom & Marie. The Disney Sweetheart took to social media to let every one of her fans take a glimpse of a few on-set pictures during the filming of the new hit Netflix movie in which she stars opposite John David Washington.

Malcom & Marie is a Netflix film about a filmmaker who returns home with his girlfriend after a celebratory movie premiere. He is awaiting what is sure to be an imminent critical and financial success. The night takes a sudden turn as revelations about their relationships begin to rise to the surface which tests the strength of their love and relationship. The film is written and directed by Sam Levinson and stars John David Washington and Zendaya. It was one of the first films to be written, directed, and completed during the COVID-19 pandemic in the United States.
Zendaya is best known as a Disney star who got her start in the role of Rocky Blue on the Disney Channel sitcom Shake It Up. She has since gone on to star in more adult-style characters. But, her fans will forever see her as a teen.
John David Washington is a former football running back who played at Morehouse College and signed with the St. Louis Rams. He is also an actor and producer. He is best known for his role on the HBO comedy series Ballers. His breakthrough role came when he played Ron Stallworth in Spike Lee’s 2018 film, BlacKkKlansman. He received nominations for Golden Globe and Screen Actors Guild Award for his acting.
Zendaya used her own handheld camera to snap some photos that she chose to share and captioned the pictures as “M&M”. The collage of pictures first portrayed Zendaya holding her camera up to her eyes and snapping a reflection of herself in a mirror. Others included Sam Levinson, the film’s director and of course, Washington. In the mirror reflection photo, Zendaya is wearing a metallic gown that was made specifically for her by Jason Rembert, better known from Aliette. The gown is spotlighted during the first part of the movie.
She revealed more than just photographs. Zendaya also spoke openly about the age gap between her and her co-star and discussed all of the controversies. Washington plays the part of her romantic partner, though she is a mere 24 years of age while he is 12 years older, at 36. The film is rated R for pervasive language and sexual content.
Zendaya explained that she has played the role of a 16-year-old from the time she was 16. She realizes that her fans literally grew up with her as she grew up in front of the camera on screen. So, she understands the controversy about the age difference since she figures it would be like watching your younger sibling grow up. However, in real life, she has grown into an adult. Zendaya may forever be thought of as a teenager on The Disney Channel no matter how sultry her roles are from here on out.
