House of Dragon stars discuss GoT prequels

The eagerly anticipated cast panel for HBO’s planned Game of Thrones prequel series, House of the Dragon, took place on July 23, sparking Comic-Con 2022. The cast members were Olivia Cooke, Emma D’Arcy, Fabien FrankelPaddy Considine, Steve Toussaint, and Eve Best. Matt Smith was also present.

Co-creator of the program and author of the 2018 book Fire & Blood, which served as both inspiration for the series and history of House Targaryen, George R.R. Martin was also there. His A Song of Ice and Fire books, on which Game of Thrones was based, was where the family was initially established.

The focus of House of the Dragon is on “Mother of Dragons” Daenerys Targaryen’s Targaryen lineage. Game of Thrones, which concluded in 2019, is set 300 years before the events of this television series.

In House of the Dragon, Martin noted during the Comic-Con panel, “There’s undoubtedly evil,” but there isn’t a clearly defined hero or villain.

Cooke, who portrays Alicent Hightower, the Hand of the Crown princess, said there is “big pressure” to offer the audience what they want while “making it new and putting our imprint on it.” I simply hope you enjoy it, she continued.

Learn more about the roles played by the actors when you see them both in and out of costume:

Paddy Considine plays King Viserys Targaryen

King Viserys Targaryen is a lovely, friendly, and good man who merely wants to continue his grandfather’s heritage. However, great rulers are not often made of nice individuals.

Considine described his role as a “gentle guy” who “tries to keep the peacefulness running within the kingdom” at San Diego Comic-Con 2022.

“He’s a guy who cares about everything, and he’s also holding something more, a type of secret exposed in the program that speaks to the potential collapse of a person,” the speaker continued.

Matt Smith as Prince Daemon Targaryen

The successor to the throne and younger brother of King Viserys. Daemon is a master fighter and a dragon rider who carries the real dragon blood. However, it is purported that the gods flip the coin into the air each time a Targaryen is born.

Olivia Cooke as Alicent Hightower

The most beautiful woman in the Seven Kingdoms and the daughter of Otto Hightower, the Hand of the King. She has a courtly grace and sharp political insight because she was nurtured in the Red Keep, close to the monarch and his inner circle.

Emma D’Arcy as Princess Rhaenyra Targaryen

She is a dragon rider and the firstborn child of the monarch; she is of genuine Valyrian blood. Rhaenyra was blessed with just about everything, according to many. She wasn’t born a male, but.

Steve Toussaint as Lord Corlys Velaryon

He is the head of House Velaryon, a Targaryen-era Valyrian ancestry. Lord Corlys transformed his home into a dominant seat that is even wealthier than the Lannisters and boasts the greatest navy in the world while being known as “The Sea Snake,” the most renowned sailor in Westeros history.

Eve Best as Princess Rhaenys Velaryon

Princess Rhaenys, portrayed by Eve Best, is the wife of Lord Corlys Velaryon, “The Queen Who Never Was.” At the Great Council, her cousin Viserys was given preference over her because he is a man.

She should’ve been the queen, and it’s sort of aggravating that she isn’t, Eve remarked at Comic-Con 2022, adding that “The Queen That Never Was” greatly irritates her character.

Sonoya Mizuno as Mysaria

She had nothing when she arrived in Westeros and has been sold more than she can count. Instead of wilting, she ascended to become the heir to the kingdom and Prince Daemon Targaryen’s most dependable and unlikely ally.
